DNS issues
An unexpected change to DNS at the weekend has caused some issues with client-to-server and server-to-server connectivity, these changes have now been corrected and services should return to normal as the DNS records propagate.
New web client
A new web client has been made available to provide access JMUK Jabber services via a browser.
The client is Jappix 0.3, a new but highly functional application providing access to most common Jabber services including multi-user chat through a polished modern interface.
You can access the web client by pointing your browser to http://jappix.jabber.me.uk
Jappix also supports accessing Jabber chat rooms using a new anonymous Jabber service running on anon.jabber.me.uk.
Certificate update
The SSL certificate on the server has changed, this is likely to generate a warning on your clients. Please ignore this error.
AOL AIM Transport Now Available
The AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) transport has now been updated and is available to all JMUK users. For help setting it up see the transports usage guide.
Service update – April 2010
New pages are available on the web site explaining how to access the IM and IRC transports available on JMUK. They are generic instructions; for guidance on using your specific client you must consult your client’s documentation.
The AIM transport continues to be offline since it broke compatibility with it’s dependency over a year ago. I cannot provide any estimate on when this will return as it’s a problem with the software and not this server’s implementation of it.
All services returned to operation
Following the previous maintenance window, all services have returned to normal operation.
Downtime: Server Migration
Due to a physical shift of the server at the host Jabber.me.uk will experience extended downtime commencing 5.00pm Wednesday 16th September 2009 until approximately 1pm Thursday 17th September 2009.
All services will be affected, including web-site, XMPP services and transports.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
Weekend Service Outage
The service is back up following an outage caused by a failed firewall. This issue is now resolved and I do not expect further problems as a result of it.
New user registration re-enabled!
After some slow to complete server changes, in-band registration has been re-enabled. New users can create accounts using any XMPP (Jabber) client that supports xep-0077, which is almost all of them!
Registrations
Registrations are still closed pending a functional and effective backup process being put in place. Unfortunately a few issues have come about which has prevented this being completed but I don’t expect it will take much longer.
